Tucked away in the beating heart of Napa Valley, Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is a wondrous confluence of slope, soil, and exposure. Block 4 extends eastwards from the toes of the Mayacamas on a gradual slope of well-drained, alluvial soil in the bosom of Oakville’s esteemed western benchlands. This is Napa Valley terroir we have long admired, and Käännös offers us the opportunity to translate a small piece of it.

12. The Relationship

To date, we’ve focused our energies on vineyards that might rightly be called ‘hidden gems’. Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard, with a towering reputation built on astute stewardship and singular terroir, is the most pedigreed site we’ve bottled. Why this site? We’ve been lucky enough to work with the Phillips family and their incredible fruit since 2010, and know only too well how special it is. It never skips a beat, no matter what Mother Nature throws at it.
Block 4, the source of our cabernet grapes for Käännös, lies midway between the towering Mayacamas and the valley floor proper on the famed western benchlands of Oakville.
